DE STREETWEAR TO COUTURE
A moda é quente na África, mas não existe tal como “moda africana”.
Existem cenas de moda florescentes em várias cidades, que vão desde streetwear até couture, e de experimental para mais convencional.
As pessoas vestindo, criando e estudando moda, usam para mostrar sua identidade, gostos pessoais e antecedentes.
A moda , são muitas vezes profundamente enraizadas na cidade onde essas pessoas vivem, a cidade que mantém um espelho para elas.
Fashion Cities Africa mostra a diversidade da moda em quatro cidades africanas – cheias de criatividade, inspiração e espírito empreendedor.
PERSPECTIVA LOCAL
Fashion Cities Africa explora as cenas da moda urbana na perspectiva de designers locais, estilistas, retalhistas, fotógrafos e blogueiros.
Como por exemplo ( The brother and sister team behind 2ManySiblings ), nos levam ao mercado em Nairobi, onde eles compram roupas de designer de segunda mão para modificar e fazer um novo estilo.
A exposição também inclui criações de The Sartists (Johannesburg), Said Mahrouf (Casablanca) e o rótulo de moda Maki Oh (Lagos), que é favorecido por celebridades como Beyoncé e Michelle Obama.
ÁFRICANOS NA HOLANDA
O Tropenmuseum também convidou agentes de moda holandeses que incorporam suas raízes africanas na moda – Daily Paper, Doru Komonoteng Loboka en Nsimba Valene Lontanga, Karim Adduchi e Lady Africa – para participar da exposição. Para a Fashion Cities Africa, eles compartilham sua inspiração, métodos e projetos com os visitantes.

FROM STREETWEAR TO COUTURE
Fashion is hot in Africa, but there is no such thing as ‘African fashion’. There are flourishing fashion scenes in several cities, ranging from streetwear to couture, and from experimental to more conventional. The people wearing, creating and studying these fashions use them to display their identity, personal tastes and background. The fashions are often deeply rooted in the city where these people live, the city that holds a mirror to them. Fashion Cities Africa showcases the diversity of fashion in four African cities – full of creativity, inspiration and entrepreneurial spirit.
LOCAL PERSPECTIVE
Fashion Cities Africa explores the urban fashion scenes from the perspective of local designers, stylists, retailers, photographers and bloggers. The brother and sister team behind 2ManySiblings, for example, takes us to the market in Nairobi where they buy second-hand designer clothes in order to restyle them. The exhibition also includes creations by The Sartists (Johannesburg), Said Mahrouf (Casablanca) and the Maki Oh fashion label (Lagos), which is favoured by celebrities such as Beyoncé and Michelle Obama.
AFRICA IN THE NETHERLANDS
The Tropenmuseum has also invited Dutch fashion agents who incorporate their African roots into fashion – Daily Paper, Doru Komonoteng Loboka en Nsimba Valene Lontanga, Karim Adduchi and Lady Africa – to participate in the exhibition. For Fashion Cities Africa, they share their inspiration, methods and designs with visitors.
